Let us encourage our seniors to travel to Africa I had a grand mother who lived to be 102 years old and over the years of my going to African I and Grandmother Eldora Johnson would talk about my trips to Africa. If I had the mind years ago that I have today I would have encouraged my grandmother to travel to Africa with me. My Mother Mrs. Irene Elmore passed away in 1984 and she never lived to see me travel to Africa however in 1992 I encouraged my father Mr. William Frank Elmore to travel to Kenya with me and my dad traveled to Kenya 3 times. After going to Kenya 3 times my dad decided to delay his retirement from Dean's Milk on Madison Avenue so that he could travel each year. Dad ended his life after going to Australia, Italy, China and other foreign countries. He was planning to go to Alaska when a sudden bout of prostrate cancer ended his life in a short time in 2003. Whenever I meet seniors I see my parents and grandparents and I always encourage them to make the goal of traveling to Africa before they leave this world. In our culture there is a disconnect between the old and the young and many of us who are younger do not find the time or have many things in common with seniors and this is tragic. Whenever I go to a Tyler Perry movie I see cases of the Great-Grandmother, the Grandmother, the Daughter and her Children. At those movies we see 4 generations of family together. During the Election of President Barack Obama we saw a unity of Generations unified at the effort to elect Barack Obama. We are organizing a senior's program for those going to Africa. Our senior's program is directed at encouraging Grandmother and Grandfather to travel to Africa. Many seniors consider their life to be over and every day many just go through the same routine and there is nothing in their lives that they are excited about. I was at the store a few days ago and I saw a gentlemen who I have know since I was in high school and me and his daughter are the same age. I asked him how his wife was doing and I discovered that she had passed away and the daughter had moved back home with him. I suggested to him that he should travel to Africa with his daughter in 2010 and he brighten up. How many seniors have lost their life long mates and they have nothing exciting to look forward to.
I tell seniors that they should travel to Kogelo Kenya with me in 2010 and give Sarah Obama the Grandmother to Barack Obama a big hug. Sarah Obama is 86 years old and she traveled from Kenya to Washington D.C. to see her Grandson become the first Black President of the United States of America. There are Grandmothers and Grandfathers who would find a joy traveling to Africa for the first times in their lives. When organizing this 2010 tour to Ethiopia and Kenya I specifically organized a type of tour that is accommodating to seniors. We have considered the age, culture and thinking of seniors and we are putting a program in place that accommodates seniors. The first thing that we are putting in place is a support group of other seniors joining together for this trip. The first thing that we are putting together is a level of trust and comfort and that is our giving proper information about the tour. Seniors want to know every single detail about this trip even down to the meals they will eat and what their hotels will look like. Prior to traveling to Africa we plan to have classes and teach every single detail about where they are going and what they expect to see. We will encourage them to take camera and we will have video available to record this historic trip. They will know who will be in the room with them and who will sit next to them during the long flight. Everyone will be well prepared from what to wear, what to take and we will give them support in all areas. We will help them to get their passports, we will apply for their Visa to Kenya and Ethiopia. We will keep families updated via email as to how they are doing in Africa. We will make sure everyone get to where they are going comfortably and safely. The African Travel Speaking Engagements
We will appear on television, radio, newspaper and Internet. Also we will visit community centers, retirement homes, Churches and family gathering to discuss this trip and answer any questions about Africa. If you or your group would like to invite me to speak just call me at 901 452-4330 or email me at
