What is the Safari Tour 2011?
For almost 20 years every time that I see my friend Memphis Mayor W.W. Herenton I beg the Mayor to please go to Africa and make a difference. Going to Africa takes a passion and heart. One young man did have the heart to visit Africa a few times and Africa changed his life. Today that young man is the most noted man in world history Barack Obama Jr. the President of the United States of America. In 1958 another young man made his first trip overseas to witness the independence of the 1st African Country to gain its freedom from colonization. In plain in simple terms the Safari Tour 2011 is a peace, educational, spiritual, entertainment and trade journey organized by Anthony “Amp” Elmore that takes a group on a Safari adventure to the three African Countries of Ethiopia, Kenya and Ghana. The 1st leg of the tour will be a visit to Ethiopia and Kenya in the summer of 2011 and Ghana one year later in 2012.
The best introduction of Africa from our standpoint of a tour in Africa by large and diverse multi-culture groups of various social and economic backgrounds Kenya would be the best Introduction to Africa because Kenya offers the best diversity for the Westerner especially African/Americans. Most of the African/Americans taking this tour will be on their 1st International trip and many will not be 100% confident and comfortable during an International trip. Unlike many Whites who will hitchhike across America or Europe or backpack in Africa, the Average African/American is not that adventurous and most do not want to face any challenges. Kenya knows how treat its guest and African/Americans are for the most part very rare in Kenya. African/Americans are given the highest honor and respect in Kenya from the common man to government officials. The fact Kenya is the ancestor home of our President Barack Obama Sr. and our connecting with our President's heritage make this trip to Kenya very attractive.
Ghana Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah & Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This is a picture of me in Kenya a few years ago with the current minister of Tourism the honorable Najib Balala. In 2003 we asked Africa and April founder Dr. David Acey to honor Kenya and Minister Balala actually visited Memphis. If Memphiams are serious about visiting Africa they will get the best treatment in Kenya. Kenya has an economy based on tourism and service is their business it is like being on a big cruise ship. On March 25, 2010 we asked Memphis Congressman Steve Cohen to arrange a meeting with us and the Kenya Ambassador the honorable Peter Ogego. Before even going into the meeting I knew what Kenya would offer and how well we would be treated. We asked the Kenya Ambassador to arrange for the Prime minister or the President to meet with our group of Americans and honor every African/American with an honorary citizenship and welcome Africans/Americans home. Kenya will go over and beyond the call of duty to assist and accomodate. In 1990 I 1st traveled to Kenya to premier my movie "The Contemporary Gladiator on video titled "Iron Thunder." Kenya treated us so well that for over a decade i took groups to Kenya. In 1995 I married a Kenyan woman, we have sinced divorced but we have a wonderful 11 year old son who is half Kenyan like President Obama. For almost 20 years we tried to get our former Mayor my friend Dr. W.W. Herenton to visit Kenya and build a partnership between Memphis and Kenya. In 2007 we mention the idea to Congressman Steve Cohen and he immediatly called his staff to set us a meeting this the Ethiopian Ambassador who was excited about our ideas. Memphis Mayor A.C. Wharton has written us twice about our African project and we expect him to be on board with us and actually traveling to Kenya to vacation with us. Kenya Ambassador The Honorable Peter Ogego
